Intercultural dance projects

Cataract

Cataract is a collaboration between Swiss-Dutch choreographer Katja Grässli, Flemisch cultural philosopher Marc Colpaert, Malaysian dancer Beh Chin Lau, Swiss-Brazilian dancer Natalie Wagner and me, with coaching by dance dramaturge  Guy Cools. Cataract will be a new dance piece within the international and interdisciplinairy project Where Two Seas Meet of Stichting MoveToMeet (Katja Grässli).

Cataract is based on the idea that our outlook on reality is unclear, veiled... and that it can't be any other way. Our inspiration will come out of Sufi philosophy, with which Jinn as a Buddhist in Malaysia is also familiar. During rehearsals, a residency period of two weeks, we developed dance and decor based on philosophical conversations about the theme and what it means to each of us.

Made possible by DansBrabant (NL), Cultuurhuis de Warande (BE) & Strijbos&vanRijswijk.

Where Two Seas Meet

Where two seas meet is an intercultural dance project and intended to bring a dialogue between different Malaysian cultures and Europe. The goal is to create a space 'In - Between - Us', in order to meet, to exchange experiences and to learn from each other's culture. This project is collaboration between Malaysian dancer and Choreographer Beh Chin Lau, the cultural philosopher Marc Colpaert, and choreographer/ projectleader Katja Grässli.
